-- Hard to believe that this will be Tim Wakefield's first All-Star Game. The stalwart knuckleballer's real-world value has dwarfed his fantasy value over the last 17 years -- he has four 16+ win seasons but has never been much of a strikeout artist -- and it's nice to see him finally earn a trip to the Midsummer Classic.
-- So Chris Davis got sent down to Triple-A this weekend, effectively making him one of 2009's biggest fantasy busts. Final tally: 15 HRs, 33 RBI and a horrific .202 batting average. I didn't go all-in on Davis this year, but I did buy into the hype enough to draft him in the Hurler league and my first-year dynasty league. In the latter, I can at least stash him on my minor-league roster and hope he develops some plate discipline. (He notched 114 strikeouts compared to 17 walks this year. Yeee-ouch.) For those of you in big leagues who were still holding onto Davis, you might need a player to replace him, even if just as a fill-in third baseman. Pickings will be slim. Recommendations include Pedro Feliz, Mark Teahen, Clint Barmes and Andy LaRoche. Don't expect much from any of those guys. Then again, if you were still stuck with Davis on your roster, you weren't getting much from that spot anyway.
-- How about Tommy Hanson's first month? After posting six ERs in his first start, he's given up only three ERs total in the five starts since. Reminds me of what Jered Weaver was able to do when he got called up in 2006.
-- Ryan Doumit will be back behind home plate for the Pirates real soon, but remember that because he suffered a wrist injury, it may take a while for his power stroke to return. (Plus, he's 0-for-9 so far during his rehab games.)
