My MLB Front Office Dynasty League team met its match today in the form of the Major League Baseball trade deadline, and the deadline pretty much kicked my teeth in. And then spit on me while I lay writhing in pain.
I've been starting Jason Varitek at catcher and Casey Kotchman at DH in this challenging 16-team league. Unfortunately, with V-Mart and Kotchman both being traded to Boston, the Red Sox now have a glut of catchers and first basemen. I'm not sure how much the Sox plan to catch Martinez, but I likely can no long expect five starts a week from Varitek. As for Kotchman, maybe Rotoworld summed it up best: "Of course, [Kotchman's] fantasy value is pretty much gone now." Hey, Rotoworld -- fuck you and your stating of the obvious. We'll see what happens with Kotchman next year, but he sure isn't going to help me with the pennant race I'm in the middle of right now.
On top of all that, my staff ace Jake Peavy, who has been a bust this season already, was moved to the White Sox, meaning at some point -- be it this season or next -- he'll come back from injury and have to face American League hitters away from the comfort of PETCO Park. Wonderful.
Our league's trading deadline isn't for another week. Maybe it's time to make some moves of my own.
