Jake Peavy got rocked E-mail

Jake Peavy was the starting pitcher for the United States in their WBC game against Puerto Rico tonight. His final line: 2 IP, 6 hits, 6 ER, 2 BB, 1 K. Ick. And the game announcers were insisting he had little zip on his fastball. Cause for alarm? Nah. It's the WBC. And it's March. I still think Peavy can be drafted as a #1 starter and for great value this season. At least I hope he can. (Have him one league already; probably will end up with him in at least one more, Mike Bock be damned.)

I dunno dude, he didn't look that great. Since I am an east coaster, I don't watch Peavy a ton, but his delivery looked all out of wack to me. He didn't seem to be reaching back as much as he used to, limiting his torque. And he was up in the zone all day long. I know it is only spring training, but contrast that to how great Vazquez looked. I don't want to be an alarmist, but after watching Peavy pitch, I wouldn't be surprised if he had some kind of shoulder issue.

It'll be interesting to see what it does to his draft-day value. He was taken with the first pick of the fifth round in the Hurler league draft last night.

That Peavy pick was me. I didn't like it very much, but I just missed a couple of players and there were a few in my Q that were for the next couple of rounds. So when Peavy dropped in my lap, I drafted him. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Hey, Bob, Hamels for Peavy?
