Reader Mark P. asks:
Someone offered Capps and Street for Micheal Young.
I have Mo and Fuentes for closers and am towards the lower third in saves currently. I’d use Burris to fill in at SS. I’m also lower in speed and need some more SB in the lineup.
However I’m worried my Run/RBI/HR/AVG might suffer a little bit, and I’m not doing great in either right now…. Lower third in Run/RBI and upper third in HR/AVG. I’m also concerned about the health of Capps and Street since both are injury prone. If I were to do it I’d prob drop Beimel, Branyon, or Cuddyer. Which would be best?
Mike Bock responds:
I certainly wouldn't drop Cuddyer or Branyon, and if Burris is the best player to fill in at SS, I'd definitely hesitate. I actually think Street and Capps, setting aside injury concerns, are way more valuable than Mr. Young. However, Capps doesn't seem healthy, and the Colorado closer situation has been toxic all year.
If you only have Mo and Fuentes (two good closers by the way), you're basically gutting a category you should be winning. Why spend the draft picks to get those guys only to finish in the bottom third in saves? I think Young tails off, and you'll need to pray for the health of Capps. I'd do the deal but have my eye on the waiver wire for a better SS than Burriss all year.
