The fantasy season is over. The 2009 MLB season as a whole will be laid to rest in four to seven more games. But that doesn't mean there's not stuff to talk about ...
-- Mark McGwire is getting back in the game. Good for him. I've felt nothing but bad for the guy over the last decade. McGwire never tested positive for steroids and has only ever admitted to taking andro, which wasn't even on MLB's banned-substance list at the time. He also never went around insisting that he played the game steroid-free (as did A-Rod, Papi, Palmeiro and pretty much every other big name ... before they got busted). McGwire's just kind of a big, socially awkward dude who has no desire to discuss the steroid era and his role in it. He deserves this chance to work in baseball again. The only negative: Tony La Russa's going to stick around now, too.
-- That chick Steve Phillips was nailin' might be batshit insane, but I'm still thinking she deserves a holiday in her honor for getting Steve Phillips removed from my television set! Thank you, sexually reckless and emotionally unstable girl!
-- Maybe you already heard, but the Phillies and the Yankees kick off the 2009 World Series on Wednesday, and I'm finding it hard to get excited. The Phillies? Weren't they just here last year? Insufferable Philadelphia fans get to do this again? And I don't know about you, but I was enjoying that five-year run of Yankees-free World Series. Still, though, it is the World Series, so predictions are required. Phillies in six.
